A video showing a Trinamool leader allegedly promising financial assistance to a resident in exchange for support has ignited controversy in Sandeshkhali. Deepika Poddar, president of Sandeshkhali Panchayat Samiti, is seen in the video purportedly making the promise, prompting opposition criticism and accusations of vote-buying. State BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya criticized the incident, stating, "If Trinamool is going to get support from money like this again, then they are living in a fool's paradise."
In response to land grabbing allegations against Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates, Uttam Singh and Shivprasad Hazra, Trinamool representatives have reportedly initiated efforts to assuage local anger. The ruling party is clearing the dues of the accused and engaging in door-to-door visits, sparking further scrutiny over potential electoral influence. State minister Sujit Basu expressed unawareness of the situation, while Trinamool has launched a local committee to address grievances. Amidst internal discord regarding Deepika's affiliation, the administration and the party have intensified efforts to mend relations with Sandeshkhali residents, including financial reimbursements and community engagement initiatives.
However, Taaza TV has not confirmed the authenticity of the video.
